Achieve Breakthrough Embedded Performance with the New PowerPC® Processing Block ArchitectureDate: May 21, 2008Time: 11:00 AM PDT, 2:00 PM EDT, 18:00 GMT Location: Your Desktop Webcast Overview:The new Virtex®-5 FXT family of Xilinx FPGAs was developed specifically to enable integration of sophisticated embedded systems on a single, flexible and high performance platform. In this webcast, Xilinx will introduce the high system performance and bandwidth advantages of the innovative PowerPC 440 blocks embedded in the new Virtex-5 FXT platform FPGAs. We will show how to build customized embedded systems to unique and exacting design requirements, while lowering both system cost and power consumption. FPGA-based embedded processing designs, reduce component count, board size and ultimately simplify the Bill of Materials without giving up performance. The PowerPC 440 Embedded Block begins with an industry standard IBM PowerPC 440 core. Connected to that is a powerful 5x2 master/slave crossbar switch that allows concurrent memory and I/O access. Augmenting this are 4 independent scatter-gather DMA channels for dedicated point to point connectivity. This combination of hardened, integrated features (not to mention the high-speed serial transceivers and immersed DSP slices also present in the Virtex5-FXT) enables designers to easily craft high throughput processing systems in a minimal amount of time. In this webcast, attendees will learn:

Quick Start Your Embedded Development with Linux and MicroBlazeOriginal broadcast date: 11 Dec 2007View this featured webcast Webcast Overview:In order to meet critical time to market pressures and rapidly changing application requirements, embedded systems have to be built on a flexible processing solution that can be customized to meet application requirements. This applies to both the software and the hardware platform since software makes up a significant portion of the embedded system development time and cost. In the earlier MicroBlaze™ Quick Start webcast, we presented the advantages of a flexible processing solution and the steps to build a custom embedded system using MicroBlaze. In this joint LynuxWorks-Xilinx webcast, we present the advantages of open source embedded Linux 2.6 when used with MicroBlaze soft processor and its Memory Management Unit (MMU). Apart from explaining the robustness and ease of software development when an MMU is available, we will demonstrate the steps to rapidly build a Linux kernel image (BSP) for the design using automatic BSP generation tools.
